Agency vs.

Direct Caregiver

Finding the right caregiver is a critical decision for families. Many choose a trusted home care agency like Caring Haven, where caregivers are thoroughly background-checked, trained, and supported. While some families may hope to hire a caregiver directly hoping to save money, it is important to understand the full scope of responsibilities and risks that come with that choice.

Here is what families should consider:

Protection & Coverage:

At Caring Haven, our caregivers are bonded, insured, and covered under worker’s compensation. If something happens on the job such as theft, or a caregiver gets injured, you are protected. Private caregivers, however, do not typically carry these protections, leaving families vulnerable to significant financial costs in case of accidents or incidents.

 Reliability & Backup Support:

Life happens. If a caregiver from Caring Haven is unavailable, we ensure a seamless replacement to maintain continuity of care. Families are left scrambling to find backup care with a private hire, adding stress when it is least needed. Caring Haven has a 100% caregiver attendance guarantee in writing.

Accountability & Oversight:

Caring Haven handles all our caregivers' training, coaching, and performance assessments. When hiring directly, you, the family, must take on the role of employer—supervising, managing, and even handling terminations if necessary.

Skill & Quality Assurance:

Ensuring your loved one’s safety and well-being requires more than a compassionate heart; it demands skill. Especially for seniors with mobility challenges, dementia, or Alzheimer’s, caregivers need specialized training. At Caring Haven, we have guaranteed members on our team with the expertise to meet these needs, offering a level of confidence that is hard to achieve with independent hires.

Legal & Tax Responsibilities:

Hiring a caregiver directly means managing payroll taxes, filing necessary forms, and ensuring legal work status, a complicated and time-consuming process. When you partner with Caring Haven, we take care of all legal and administrative tasks, giving you peace of mind.

While saving money is important, the hidden costs and risks of hiring a private caregiver can outweigh the benefits. At Caring Haven, we believe in providing not just care, but safety, reliability, privacy, ongoing training, and the comfort of knowing your loved one is in capable hands every day.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Process for Starting Care?

We begin with an initial phone consult to discuss the reason for the call. If care is required, we conduct a comprehensive assessment with a care plan and safety inspection at your residence/facility. Based on the assessment we determine the level of care needed and finalize an agreement to begin care.

Do you have Minimum Hours Weekly?

No. However, we have a daily minimum of 4 hours to ensure we provide the best care. This time allows us to work at your or your loved one's pace, give thorough support, and fulfill the terms of our personalized care plan.

What is your Rate?

Pricing varies based on the level of care needed, which is why we offer a comprehensive assessment. The assessment allows us to understand specific needs to address the right level of care and provide an accurate quote.

On average, our rates are from $40 - $45 hourly*** (live-in care, 24-hour care is lower).

How do you ensure the safety and well-being of my loved one?

We prioritize your loved one's safety and well-being through meticulous caregiver screening, personalized care plans, frequent and unannounced check-ins, and round-the-clock support. We also employ cutting-edge technology and adhere to strict safety protocols to provide you with peace of mind.

How do you ensure continuity of care and communication between caregivers?

Ensuring seamless continuity of care and transparent communication is our top priority. We achieve this through comprehensive care plans, regular team meetings, electronic documentation with a portal the family can access, which can require client signatures and ongoing training for our caregivers.

I have been the caregiver for my 70-year-old mother for 3 years. I am burned out and wondering what I should do?

Have you thought about trying respite care? It's different in every State but they offer care to your loved ones to give you a much-needed break. If you qualify the State will pay for it as well.

Not eligible for Medicaid, but not enough money to private pay. What do we do?

Long-Term-Care, Medicaid/Medi-Cal in California, may pick up the rest of the cost. Medi-Cal is a different program than regular Medicaid, and the income limits are different.

What types of Care services do you offer?

24-Hour Care, Overnight Care, Weekend Care, Live-in Care, Companionship, Personal Care, Post-Surgery and Rehab Care, Hospice*, and Memory Care.

At Caring Haven Home Care, we believe that true care extends far beyond just meeting physical needs—it’s about fostering a genuine connection with each individual we serve.

Our  Home Care Services in Walnut Creek and surrounding areas are designed with empathy at the core, ensuring that every senior or adult receives the same level of love, respect, and dedication as we would provide to our own family members.

For those in need of specialized support, such as Memory Care Services in Antioch, we understand the profound impact that cognitive challenges like dementia can have on both individuals and their families.

Our caregivers are not just trained professionals; they are compassionate companions who engage clients in meaningful activities, help manage medications, and provide the emotional support necessary to navigate the complexities of memory care.

Additionally, our Post-Surgery and Post-Rehab Care services are tailored to assist clients transitioning back home after a hospital stay or medical procedure. We understand that this period can be overwhelming, so our caregivers are there to support every step of the recovery process, whether that involves transportation, medication management, or simply providing a comforting presence as clients regain their strength.

In everything we do, from In-Home Care in Antioch, CA to Home Care Services in Rio Vista, our mission remains the same: to empower our clients by creating a nurturing environment where they feel seen, heard, and valued. At Caring Haven, it’s not just about the services we offer; it’s about the heart behind those services—the unwavering commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of those we care for.
